Skype in the Classroom changes into Flipgrid Community

The Skype in the Classroom website will no longer be available after December 18, 2020. That’s what Iro Stepfopoulou claimed at yesterday’s Teams meeting for Global Learning Mentors. To continue working in global lessons and projects, Microsoft proposes to join the Flipgrid community by creating an account. How to join and how to act? Read on

There are 5 categories available: Discussion, Discovery, Activity, Mixtapes, Shorts. In short, how to use them.

Flipgrid community creates possibilities for:

  • finding your partners for lessons and projects – activate the GridPals option and, thanks to the map, select teachers from all over the world to cooperate with. Set a topic, choose a convenient communicator (eg Skype, Teams, etc.) and connect live
    working asynchronously with other teachers: Discussion category, create a group and add another teacher as a co-pilot: Visit your Tutor account at Try using activities in your group and select Add CoPilot. Enter the email address of another Flipgrid teacher and select Invite
  • Project kick-off: In Discussion category, create a topic or group and send the code to other educators and students to record their opinions and activities in the project
  • using ideas, discussions, topics, lessons, projects prepared by educators from around the world: search in the browser in the Discovery category
  • quick communication by recording videos – create a group (longer projects) or a topic (shorter projects) in the Discussion category
  • recording excerpts from lessons, sending video messages via the Shorts category
  • virtual tours – category Discovery – Partners – search for the right topic for you
  • events, live lessons
